Ever heard that good things come when you least expect it? It happened to me when I chanced upon this stall called “Dookki” whilst shopping in Myeongdong. Coincidentally, it was the last meal I had in Seoul before flying back to Singapore 🙂
Dookki is a deokbokki (spicy rice cake) buffet restaurant, where you can get your ingredients from the buffet table and cook it in your own steamboat at your table. I learnt that Dookki means 2 meals, and that the first meal would be your own rice cake steamboat, and the second meal is fried rice cooked using the remaining sauce from the first meal.
The food selection is quite amazing, with over 5 kinds of rice cake (there are sweet potato rice cake, round rice cake, hollow rice cake and more!), ramen (yesss), meat, fishcake and vegetables. There is also some fried food like mandu (dumplings), fried glass noodles wrapped in seaweed, and fried chicken. Eomuk (fishcake in cooked broth) is also available, for those familiar with korean dramas! 😉
After finishing your first meal, the remaining sauce is used to cook fried rice. You can get rice, chopped kimchi, corn, sesame oil and crushed seaweed from the buffet table to create your second meal. I suggest leaving some stomach space for the fried rice because it’s reallyyy good ❤
What I like about Dookki is that it’s really customizable. Not only can you choose your own ingredients, you can customize your sauce! There are a few kinds of sauces, including the normal ddeokbokki spicy sauce, a spicier sauce, cream sauce and even jjajjang (black bean sauce) and more. You can mix and match these sauces to create the best sauce for you. I saw some customers cook with the cream sauce first, then had their second serving with jjajjang sauce.
For those interested in the price, Dooki is quite reasonable in my opinion. I don’t remember the exact price, but for the lunch I had in Myeongdong, Korea it was less than SGD 15! For the branch here in Singapore, the dinner price is SGD 18.80++. It’s really worth it for the spread, and you will be very full after the meal.
Hehe that’s all I have to share about this gem, I hope I made some of you hungry and craving for ddeokbokki 🙂 If you liked this post please do give me a “like” and follow me on my Instagram @whiskoflife for updates! Thank you all~ ❤
